What Kind of Tyre for the Winter Season?
It is now the third winter I´m driving with the same tyres I
got with the car when I bought it and now I start to notice that they are maybe
not anymore in their most perfect condition. But since this is my first car, I
have never bought a car tyre in my life. First I thought that this would be an
easy project; just get yourself to the internet and it will tell you what kind
of tyres to have. But after I did the browsing in the numerous online shops
providing different kind of tyres I got even more confused.
The old tyres were winter tyres with studs, but they were
already so worn out, that there were hardly any help from the studs anymore. I
slipped and slided through the roads on the first frosty morning and it was
obviously a sign for to get a new set of tyres immediately or otherwise not to
drive anymore on slippery winter roads or I would be a safety risk not only for
myself but to other drivers as well. After when I got back home in the
afternoon and opened the day’s paper, I realized I hadn't been the only one
with outdated tyres on. There had been numerous small crashes as the winter
weather made the roads slippery icy. After I read the news I checked the advice
and available options for new winter tyres. After having some confused moments
in the internet I decided to go to a proper tyre shop to get personal service
and advice as soon as I had time.
I got to know, that there is also a kind of all weather tyre,
which could be used in winter when driving only short distances and when
driving mostly on the city roads which are daily cleared from the snow and ice.
On the other hand, even if I mostly drove on this kind of environment, every
now and then we make a trip to countryside where the roads could be in any
condition. On those roads the all weather tyres would not be helpful, so I
decided on the favour of the proper studded winter tyres. After all, they
probably had a better grip on the icy roads, and I would mostly like encounter
such on every upcoming winter at some point.
