The best-selling SUV in the world moves into the fifth round
. In 1994, the Japanese co-founded the compact SUV segment with the RAV4 , and
24 years later Toyota presents the brand-new model . In the US, the RAV4 will
be launched at the end of 2018, to Europe in the first quarter of 2019 .
Generation Five is the first RAV4 based on the new Toyota New
Global Architecture Platform (TNGA) . With a length of 4.60 meters , it is
almost as long as its predecessor. By shorter overhangs, the wheelbase could
still be extended by 30 millimeters, which should primarily benefit the
occupants. At the same time Toyota promises a larger boot volume, without
giving specific numbers. Visually, the new RAV4 is much more strikingly

protection and the roof rack arouses the impression that it can handle even
light to medium-heavy terrain. It is unclear whether Toyota will offer the RAV4
in Europe as an adventure, in the US it is still available in different
versions.
Interior: Toyota promises more space and better quality
Toyota improves the quality of the interior of the RAV4 . In
addition, the rear passengers benefit from the extended wheelbase . This

SUV with many comfort features such as a panoramic roof or electric and

Engines: RAV4 without plug-in hybrid
In the base, the SUV is powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder,
which delivers the power via an eight-speed automatic transmission to all four
wheels. He should afford just under 200 hp. The RAV4 Hybrid is not offered as a
plug-in hybrid, but dispenses with a charging option. The 2.5-liter
four-cylinder gasoline engine makes 177 hp. Together with the e-machines, the
system performance of all-wheel-drive reaches 222 hp. The so-called AWD-i
all-wheel drive has torque vectoring and can send up to 50 percent of the
engine power to the rear wheels.
